Jubiläumsweg (Allgäu Alps)
The Jubiläumsweg is a high alpine hiking trail in the Allgäu Alps .
The 18 km long high trail leads in the border area of Bavaria and Tyrol from the Willersalpe to the Prinz-Luitpold-Haus . The Jubiläumsweg was laid out in the years 1898/99 by the DAV - Allgäu-Immenstadt section on the occasion of its 25th anniversary, which is how the path got its name. Due to its length, it requires a high level of fitness, although it Geißeck between the highest points of the yoke and Bockkar gathered in relatively constant altitudes ranging from 1800 up to 2000 meters runs.
It leads past a series of mountain peaks and a mountain lake, the Schrecksee . Its scenic diversity, the alpine flora and the high mountain fauna characterize the tour along the Jubiläumsweg.
Tour description
From Hinterstein , the jubilee path can be mastered in around eight to ten hours. To reduce the daily workload, you can climb the day before in about one and a half hours to the Willersalpe at 1,456 meters above sea level, where you can stay overnight. This can also be used if you want to precede the Jubilee Trail with the tour from Oberjoch via Iseler (1876 m), Bschießer (2000 m) and Ponten (2044 m) to the Zirleseck (1872 m), which is an often chosen variant and addition to the Jubilee Trail is. It takes about three and a half hours from the Iselerbahn mountain station to the Willersalpe. With an additional time of about an hour, a detour to the Rohnenspitze (1992 m) can be made from the Zirleseck . You can also climb and cross the Gaishorn (2247 m) from the Zirleseck , so that the Jubiläumsweg can be reached from the Iseler without loss of altitude. The Willersalpe is left out, from where you would otherwise climb to the Geißeckjoch (2055 m).
From Geißeckjoch between Geißeck (2212 m) and Rauhhorn located (2240 m), you can enjoy a comprehensive view of both the Ostrachtal as deeper on the approximately 900 meters Vilsalpsee the east. Mountain climbing experience is required for the transition over the Rauhhorn . The path is sometimes exposed and secured with wire rope in some places. The normal leads the other hand, a piece Vilsalpsee downhill counter and crosses under the powerful Ostabstürzen the roughness horn therethrough, then transferred to sweep up at the green saddle of the rear Schafwanne (1956 m). From here the Jubiläumsweg continues on the west side under the summit of the Kugelhorn (2126 m) into a green high trough with the Schrecksee , a mountain lake with the rare phenomenon of an island. From the Schrecksee there is the possibility of descending into the valley. The Jubiläumsweg continues, in a semicircle the lake is bypassed on the slopes of the "church roof" and under the walls of the box head.
The high trail to the Lahnerscharte (1988 m) continues with a moderate rise between Kastenkopf and Lahnerkopf . There is a comprehensive view of the Hochvogel and the Roßkarzähne as well as the elongated Schwarzwassertal on the Tyrolean side. From the Lahnerscharte, the Saalfelder Höhenweg , which is also popular with mountain hikers, starts pointing to the left and leads over to the Landsberger Hütte, a managed Alpine Club hut . The Jubiläumsweg continues to the right, without any noteworthy ascents and descents, past Schänzlespitze and Schänzlekopf , here with steel cable protection, always with a characteristic view of the Hochvogel.
In a wide arc under the Sattelköpf mountain , always on the east side and thus in Austrian territory, the path reaches the Lärchwand with very steep rock and grass flanks. This section requires great caution and a head for heights from hikers. There is a steel cable safety device here. After the Lärchwand, the Jubiläumsweg crosses lush meadows with rich alpine flora. Here the path branches off to the Balkenscharte and the Hochvogel. The Jubiläumsweg continues right here to the Prinz-Luitpold-Haus. Alternatively, the Alpenvereinshütte can also be reached via the Balkenscharte followed by a steep descent. However, the normal route also requires physical fitness from the hiker. Because the trail continues to Bockkarscharte (2164 m), it gets steeper and extends through an extensive debris kar between Glasfelderkopf and boiler Spitz . Often there is snow here until late summer, which requires increased caution when walking. From the saddle, the view becomes clear to the terminus of the Jubiläumsweg, the Prinz-Luitpold-Haus, to which you have to descend about 300 meters in about three quarters of an hour.
Tourist information
The ascent of the Jubilee Path is a one to one and a half day long high mountain hike. The mountain hike, which is easy for the experienced and requires stamina for the less experienced, can also be done with children from 10 to 12 years. During the tour, in addition to the equipment that is always necessary in the high mountains, you must ensure that you have enough provisions, as there are no temporary accommodations and hardly any water points. In exposed places there is rope protection in places.
The best hiking time is usually in October, depending on when the snow has melted, from the beginning of August to the end of the mountain hiking season.
