Juchhöh is a hamlet of Venzka , a district of Hirschberg (Saale) in the Saale-Orla district in Thuringia .

geography

location

Juchhöh is a street hamlet near the state border with Bavaria , which is surrounded by forest on three of four sides. It is located on federal highway 2 and on the local road to Mödlareuth . Most of the fields are on the high plateau in the direction of Venzka . Neighboring towns are the town of Hirschberg and the towns of Venzka, Mödlareuth and Dobareuth .

geology

The geological area of the hamlet is located in the south-east Thuringian slate mountains . The soils are productive and reliable due to the high proportion of fine earth and humus . Spring troughs and valleys are grassland locations. Arable farming is favored on the plateau-like ridges, undulating plains and flat slopes. In other locations, forest use predominates.

history

The place Juchhöh was first mentioned in the years 1713-1715.

After the Rudolphstein bridge on the Saale was destroyed in 1945, the transit traffic (interzonal traffic) between East Germany and West Germany coming from the Schleiz motorway exit was diverted on the winding federal highway 2, which overcomes differences in altitude, via Zollgrün , Gefell , Dobareuth and Juchhöh to the border crossing to Töpen . Juchhöh was a checkpoint until December 16, 1966. With the completion of the new motorway bridge, traffic could roll over the motorway again continuously.

On January 1, 1974, Juchhöh and the neighboring village of Venzka were incorporated into the town of Hirschberg.

economy

The area was once used for recreation and agriculture. After the Second World War , it was overshadowed by the inner-German border for decades . Now rural life is decisive again together with the recreational function.
