Julie Bowen
Julie Bowen (* 3. March 1970 in Baltimore , Maryland as Julie Bowen Luetkemeyer ) is an American actress .
Life
Bowen is the second of three children. Her father is a real estate agent , the older sister is an interior designer , and the younger sister is a doctor in San Francisco . Bowen was married to real estate entrepreneur Scott Phillips from September 2004 to February 2018 and the couple have three children together.
Bowen's acting career began in 1992. She is best known for her guest appearances in television series such as Emergency Room , Dawson's Creek , Lost , Weeds and Monk . Her better-known films include Happy Gilmore with Adam Sandler and Joe Jedermann with Tim Allen . From 2000 to 2004 she played a leading role in the hit television series Ed - The Bowling Lawyer . She then starred in the Boston Legal series from 2005 to 2008 . From 2009 to 2020 she was the main occupation of the mockumentary - comedy series Modern Family . Bowen won an Emmy in 2011 and 2012 for portraying the overprotective mother and charismatic businesswoman Claire Dunphy .
