Julio César Balerio (born April 19, 1958 in Piriápolis , † June 24, 2013 in Montevideo ) was a Uruguayan - Peruvian football player and coach .

Career

Julio Balerio, who was 1.87 meters tall and was born in Uruguay, who also acquired Peruvian citizenship in 1996, began his footballing career in 1980 as a goalkeeper at Rentistas . With the club he was able to celebrate two promotions. In 1982 he moved to Bella Vista . For the Montevideans he ran in two seasons. In 1984 he joined the Boca Juniors in Buenos Aires . There he completed 38 games up to and including the 1985/86 season. In 1986 he joined the Racing Club . With the club from Avellaneda he won the Supercopa Sudamericana in 1988 . He also ran for Blooming in Bolivia . In 1993 he moved to Deportivo Sipesa in Peru . With the club he reached the quarterfinals of the Copa Conmebol . From 1994 he was there at Sporting Cristal . At Sporting Cristal he won the Peruvian championship in 1994, 1995 and 1996 respectively. He was also runner-up in the Copa Libertadores with the Peruvians in 1997 .

National team

Balerio was also a member of the national team of Peru . For this he contested the qualification for the soccer world championship 1998 . Balerio completed a total of 17 international matches between June 2, 1996 and November 16, 1997, in which he conceded 15 goals.

Coaching

Balerio returned to Uruguay after his active career and coached Rentistas there . In 2008 he also worked as a trainer for Juan Aurich in Peru . After a strong Apertura in 2009, Balerio cleared the coaching chair at Club Sportivo Cerrito after a 4-1 defeat against Cerro on February 8, 2010 .

Julio Balerio died in Montevideo on June 24, 2013 at the age of 55 due to cardiac arrest.
