Julio Xavier Labayen OCD (born July 23, 1926 in Talisay , Negros Occidental , Philippines , † April 27, 2016 in Antipolo ) was a Filipino Roman Catholic religious and prelate of Infanta .

Life

Julio Xavier Labayen joined the religious order of the Discalced Carmelites at and received on 4 June 1955, the priestly ordination .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on July 26, 1966 titular bishop of Sinnuara and prelate of Infanta. The Archbishop of Manila , Rufino Jiao Cardinal Santos , donated him episcopal ordination on September 8 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Alfredo Obviar , Apostolic Administrator of Lucena , and Pedro Bantigue y Natividad , Auxiliary Bishop in Manila. From 1966 to 1982 he was also the first head of the Secretariat for Social Actions in the Philippine Bishops' Conference.

On February 18, 1978 he renounced his titular bishop's seat in the course of the new allocation guidelines of the Roman Curia . On June 28, 2003, Pope John Paul II accepted his resignation due to reasons of age. He moved to Antipolo, where he died in 2016 at the age of 89.
