Julius Arnoldt (born March 21, 1816 in Wehlau ; † August 11, 1892 in Rauschen ) was a German philologist and high school teacher in East Prussia .

Life

Arnoldt's father was the second preacher at the Protestant St. Jacobi Church in Wehlau . Julius attended the Friedrichsschule Gumbinnen , from which Michaelis graduated in 1834 with the Abitur. He enrolled at the Albertus University in Königsberg to study philology and history . Like many high school graduates from his school , he graduated from the Corps Littuania . He heard Christian August Lobeck and Friedrich Wilhelm Schubert . In the sheets of memory (Schmiedeberg) a student portrait watercolor of him has been preserved. After he had acquired the Facultas Docendi and had already worked for a few years at a private school in Königsberg, he passed the senior teacher examination in the summer of 1842 . He completed his probationary year at the Old Town High School . In 1843 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD . In the same year he was a teacher at the Collegium Fridericianum , Königsberg from Easter to Michaelmas . Since the New Year of 1844 at his home high school in Gumbinnen , he was hired as a scientific assistant teacher in the autumn of the same year . At Christmas 1849 he took the position of 3rd senior teacher. Appointed director of the grammar school on October 12, 1861, he was solemnly inducted into office on November 25. He retired at Easter 1883.
