Julius Zwißler , also Julius Zwissler (born March 15, 1848 in Reutlingen ; died November 1, 1922 in Wolfenbüttel ) was a German publisher .

Life

On March 15, 1872, Zwißler founded a publishing house in Braunschweig for the distribution of folk literature. His father-in-law, the bookseller Daniel Grüneberg, who ran a book, art and music shop in Braunschweig, acquired the Wolfenbüttler music and card publisher Louis Holle. On May 1, 1874, Zwißler merged his publishing house with Adolf Fischer to form "Fischer & Zwissler" and relocated his field of activity to Wolfenbüttel, to take part in his father-in-law's business and to expand the offer there. The publishing house in Wolfenbüttel offered works of classical and modern philology, Christian edifying literature and fiction. In the following year he left Fischer, who took on Joh. Mohr as a new partner. With the death of Grüneberg in 1881, Zwißler became the sole owner of L. Holle's successor and the name was changed to “Julius Zwissler (L. Holle's successor)”.

In 1887 Zwißler sold the printing company and later in 1894 part of the music publishing house to Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Siegel (1819–1869) in Leipzig. Instead, the book program has been expanded. Many publications from the state of Braunschweig were entrusted to the publisher for editing, including publications on regional and local history, on architectural and art monuments and the publications of the Braunschweiger Geschichtsverein. Numerous works on the history and art history of the Duchy and the city of Braunschweig were published. Around 1913 he added Georg Kallmeyer as an equal partner, who took over the publishing house in 1916 and later made it a music publisher under his own name.
