Juraj Jezerinac (* 23. April 1939 in Jezerine , Yugoslavia , now Croatia ) is a Croatian priest and emeritus bishop of the Roman Catholic , Croatian Military Ordinariate .

Life

Juraj Jezerinac attended the archiepiscopal grammar school Šalata in the Archdiocese of Zagreb . Jezerinac completed his theological studies at the Catholic Faculty in Zagreb . He was ordained a priest on June 6, 1966. He was a chaplain in Nova Gradiška from 1967 to 1969 . From 1969 to 1971 he was pastor in the Zavrsje parish in Zagreb. Between 1971 and 1980 the parishes in Svesvetski Kraljevac and Cerje followed.

From 1980 to 1985 he was in charge of the Croatian Catholic diaspora congregation "Our Lady, Queen of the Croats" in Toronto , Canada , from 1985 to 1986 the parish of Oakville (Ontario) and from 1986 to 1988 the Croatian parish in Hamilton (Ontario) . In 1988 Juraj Jezerinac took over the parish of Oakville (Ontario) again.

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Zagreb and titular bishop of Strumnitza on April 11, 1991 . The Archbishop of Zagreb, Cardinal Franjo Kuharić , donated him episcopal ordination on June 8 of the same year . Co - consecrators were the pro-nuncio in Yugoslavia, Archbishop Gabriel Montalvo Higuera , and the Bishop of Hamilton , Anthony Frederick Tonnos .

The appointment as the first military bishop of the Croatian Military Ordinary, established on the same date, took place on April 25, 1997. The inauguration took place on August 18, 1997.

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on November 30, 2015.
