Jury Chechi
Jury Dimitri Chechi (born October 11, 1969 in Prato ) is a former Italian artistic gymnast .
Jury Dimitri Chechi won the gold medal on the rings at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta . In 2004 he was third on the same machine. Between 1989 and 1997 he won five gold medals and two bronze medals on the rings at the World Gymnastics Championships. Chechi was also four times European champion on the rings between 1990 and 1996.
Due to the numerous successes with this piece of gymnastics equipment, his nickname was "Lord of the Rings" at the time.
At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , he carried the Italian flag at the opening ceremony. He initiated the opening ceremony of the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin with hammer blows.
