Yuri Michalowitsch Kowtun ( Russian Юрий Михайлович Ковтун ; born January 5, 1970 in Azov , USSR ) is a Russian football player . He played with Dynamo Moscow and Spartak Moscow for most of his career . He was also a member of the Russian national soccer team from 1994 to 2003 .
Career
He learned to play football at the sports boarding school in Rostov-on-Don . He began his career in 1988 in his hometown near Luch Azov . A year later he moved to FK SKA Rostov , the first professional club. After another year he switched to Rostelmasch . Played there for three years and attracted the attention of the two Moscow clubs Dynamo and Spartak. At the beginning of the 1993 season he also moved to Dynamo Moscow. Five years later he went to Spartak Moscow. At the beginning of the 2006 season he moved to Alania in Vladikavkas. That should be his last stop as a professional footballer. A year after he left Moscow, he returned and in 2007 played a few games for the amateur club MWD Rossii Moscow . There he was appointed coach in the same year. Under his leadership, the club was very successful and achieved two promotions in a row. In addition, in August 2007, fourth place at the Police Football World Cup in Prague was achieved. In the middle of the 2009 season, the club had to end its participation in the 1st division for financial reasons . In 2010, Kowtun was an assistant trainer at Salyut-Energija Belgorod . In 2012 he played seven games for the amateur team of the Arsenal Tula club . Between 2013 and 2014 he was in the coaching staff of Volga Nizhny Novgorod . On August 12, 2015, he signed a two-year contract as assistant coach at FK Tosno .
From 1994 to 2003 he was part of the Russian national soccer team and played 50 games for them as a left defender in which he scored two goals. He took part in the 1996 European Championship and the 2002 World Championship .
