The correctional institution Frankfurt am Main III (JVA III) is a penal institution of the State of Hesse for adult and young female prisoners.

The institution is located in the north of Frankfurt am Main in the Preungesheim district , adjacent to the Frankfurt am Main I correctional facility .

history

The original Frankfurt-Preungesheim prison was built in 1888 as a prison for men according to plans by Carl Krohne . In the time of the German Empire and National Socialism, it also served as a place of execution. A total of up to 500 executions are assumed. During that time prisoners were also used as workers for industry.
After the Second World War it was initially a military prison. In 1955 it was rededicated as a women's prison after renovations.

The prison has sections for open and closed execution . Adult prisoners, juvenile prisoners and mothers with children are housed in three separate areas. In addition, there are handicapped accessible cells available. The prison has a total of 381 places.
Over the past 30 years the prison has been successively expanded by 12 new buildings. Accommodation building B was inaugurated in 2013 and offers the highest level of security. It replaces cells from the old building from 1888. The construction costs amounted to 8.1 million euros.

Detainees in JVA III can use the sports facility, the prayer room and the medical center of the neighboring JVA I , which opened in 2011 .

Mother Child Home
