history

Farmers settled in the area of today's Ossendorf 5000 years ago. Ossendorf was first mentioned in writing on October 25th, 980. In today's Frohnhofstrasse and Iltisstrasse were several farms, such as Gut Frohnhof (first mentioned as Saalhof in 920) and Gut Pisdorhof . The von Ossendorp family of knights can be traced back to the 12th century , which is also the namesake of the current district. Over the centuries there have been several variations of the place name such as Oissendorp , Aissendorp , Ossindorp , Ockindorp , Oyssindorp , Oyssendorp , Ochsendorp or Ossendorff . An ox was used in the coat of arms and seal of the knight family, which suggests a connection with the place name.

The Ursulastift in Cologne was the landlord of the Fronhof . The inhabitants of the small village of Ossendorf therefore also belonged to the parish church of St. Maria Ablass in Cologne, which was incorporated into the Ursulastift. Since it was a long way to go to church in Cologne, a chapel with an adjacent cemetery was built on the grounds of the Frohnhof by the 14th century at the latest.

On the grounds of Gut Frohnhof , Emil Pfeifer and August Joest (son of Carl Joest, founder of the "Carl Joest & Sons" refinery) built the first sugar beet processing factory in the Cologne administrative district in 1851 . The factory was shut down in 1901 and demolished in 1909. Since April 1, 1888, Ossendorf has belonged to Cologne as part of the 5th city expansion.
