history

The Moroccan Air Force was established on May 14, 1956 after the end of the French protectorate .

During the Algerian-Moroccan War in 1963, the Soviet Union supported Algeria , which led to a breakdown in relations with Moscow. Since then, France and the United States have been the main suppliers to the kingdom.

In 1973 the Royal Air Force was involved in the Yom Kippur War with Northrop F-5 Freedom Fighter machines .

In 1978 the Royal Air Force took part in the liberation of the hostages at the Battle of Kolwezi in Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo ).

During Operation Desert Storm in Iraq in 1991, Morocco sent a symbolic unit to reinforce the security of King Fahd of Saudi Arabia.

The Air Force currently has 16,000 men (elite, airborne troops , pilots , mechanics, etc.).
