geography

Kühnhausen lies west of Pöttmes on the plateau of the Lower Lechrain of the Aindlinger terrace staircase . In terms of natural space, it belongs to the Donau-Iller-Lech-Platte , which in turn is part of the Alpine foothills , one of the main natural spatial units in Germany . Together with Reicherstein , Echsheim and Wiesenbach , Kühnhausen forms the so-called Pöttmeser Oberland .

The place is at the confluence of the district road AIC 27 from the direction of Rain into the state road St 2045 from Meitingen to Pöttmes . It is surrounded by the forests of the Ebenrieder and Gumppenberger forests.

history

Kühnhausen is first recorded in the Pappenheimer Urbar from 1214 under the name Rindehusen , which indicates cattle farming. In 1280 it was already called Chindeshusen , so a reinterpretation of “cattle” to “cows”. In 1343 it is mentioned as Kindhausen , which over time became Kühnhausen .
In the 13th century the marshals von Pappenheim and the Bavarian dukes owned Kühnhausen. Later everything belonged to the Gumppenberger Hofmark from neighboring Pöttmes .
The St. Joseph Chapel, built in 1756/57, has always belonged to the Catholic parish of St. Peter and Paul in Pöttmes . It is oriented to the north and is located between the two parts of the village on the road.
Until July 1, 1972, Kühnhausen belonged to the district of Neuburg an der Donau as an independent municipality , then fell to the district of Augsburg-Ost with the regional reform in Bavaria , which was given the current name of Aichach-Friedberg district on May 1, 1973, and also became incorporated into the Pöttmes market on July 1, 1972.
