Schorn is a district of the market Pöttmes in the district of Aichach-Friedberg , which belongs to the administrative district of Swabia in Bavaria . Abenberg and Bleitzhof are also located in the district of the same name .

geography

The parish village of Schorn is located north of Pöttmes on the flat tertiary heights of the Aindlinger terrace stairs on the southwest edge of the Donaumooses . In terms of natural space, it belongs to the Donau-Iller-Lech-Platte , which in turn is part of the Alpine foothills , one of the main natural spatial units in Germany . The Einödhof Abenberg northeast of Schorn is already in the Donaumoos, the Bleitzhof west of Schorn in the middle of the hill country.

The place is directly east of the north-south running state road 2035 from Neuburg an der Donau to Augsburg .

history

Schorn was first mentioned in 1217 as Schörren , later again and again as Schoren or Scharren and finally - in the documents from 1752 onwards - as Schorn .
Originally, Schorn was a royal Maierhof , i.e. a royal court. In the centuries up to the middle of the 15th century, the Sankt Mang monastery acquired more and more properties in Schorn, but lent the farms to the local farmers. The old Schorn royal court became the monastery’s official and building yard.
In 1460 the monastery sold all of its possessions in Schorn to the Aichach citizen Hans Schorer (later Schorrer, then Scharrer), who already owned his own property in Schorn (which his family name could also refer to). Hans Scharrer is mentioned in 1466 as a district judge in Aichach. In 1470 Schorn was Hofmark , but the bailiff's rights were still claimed by the Gumppenbergers from Pöttmes.
The Scharrer family converted the Hofmark into a castle . From 1637 onwards, numerous owners of civil and aristocratic origins held the castle and Hofmark Schorn until it was inherited in 1886 by the barons of Herman, who still own it today.
Originally the parish church of Sankt Magnus in Schorn was founded by the eponymous monastery of Sankt Mang in Füssen. Later after the sale, all rights were connected to the Hofmark via the parish church. In 1830 the owners of the Hofmark renounced their patronage rights. There are numerous epitaphs of former lords of the court in the church. The formerly independent parish was at times a branch of Pöttmes and then of Walda; now it belongs to the parish community of Pöttmes in the diocese of Augsburg .
Until July 1, 1972, Schorn belonged as an independent municipality to the district of Neuburg an der Donau and then fell to the
district of Augsburg-Ost with the regional reform in Bavaria , which has been called the district of Aichach-Friedberg since May 1, 1973. On July 1, 1972, Schorn was incorporated into the Pöttmes market.
