KStV Palatia Heidelberg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The KStV Palatia Heidelberg is the oldest Catholic association in Heidelberg. It was founded on November 4, 1872 . Palatia brings together students and former students from the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg and other universities in the Rhine-Neckar triangle. Its principles are religio , scientia and amicitia . The KStV Palatia Heidelberg is colorful.

Color

The palatia has the colors "red-gold-sky blue" with golden percussion. The colors gold and red stand for Baden and blue for the old Heidelberg dynasty of the Wittelsbachers . These also prohibited the royal blue from the palatia . For this reason, the Heidelberger Palaten wear sky blue in their banner. The motto is "Fides Turris Nostra" and translated from Latin means "Faith is our tower" The name Palatia was chosen to reinforce the connection to Heidelberg. Palatia is the Latin word for the Palatinate (Electoral Palatinate), whose capital was Heidelberg for a long time.

History of the Palatia Heidelberg

The foundation

The first attempt to found a Catholic student union in Heidelberg , in 1853, was unsuccessful. Nine years later, in 1862, under the leadership of the Catholic leader in Baden, Jakob Lindau , a Catholic casino was founded. Against the strong pressure of the Protestant-dominated city of Heidelberg, a permanent meeting point was found in the house at Karlstrasse 10 in the autumn of 1867 . In the following years there were several attempts to establish a Catholic connection, but they all failed.

On November 4, 1872, the Catholic student association Palatia was founded in Haspelgasse 10 under the direction of seven Catholic students. The statutes were subsequently adopted. The young community received strong financial support from the Heidelberg doctor Leopold Fischer and the Reichstag member Jakob Lindau . The university was tolerant. The city of Heidelberg and the Grand Duchy of Baden did not restrict the connection either.

The Alter Herren association and the Palatenhaus student residence association

In 1902 the "Alter Herren des KStV Palatia" was founded, the following year the house building association was founded in order to realize the idea of having one's own house as the center of fraternal life. The planned laying of the foundation stone for the Palatenhaus had to be postponed due to the First World War . The house at Schloßberg 17 in Heidelberg was only acquired in 1921 .

In the thirties

In the following years the activities of the association were more and more shaped by the struggle of National Socialism against the Catholic connections (in the course of the Gleichschaltung). In 1933 there was a forced merger with the two cartel associations Ripuaria Heidelberg and Eckart Mannheim . In the winter semester of 1935/36, the corporation finally had to be closed; the last foundation festival before the war was held at Pentecost 1937. The Palatenhaus could not be held without Aktivitas and was therefore sold.

Re-establishment after the war

The first official post-war meeting took place in Cologne in January 1947 . The goal was to re-establish the active corporation, which succeeded after some difficulties in 1952 . At the beginning of 1958, the current Palatenhaus at Ziegelhäuser Landstrasse 43 was acquired, although it was only partially possible to move into it. Today 9 rooms are available as student living space. There is also the living room, the convention hall and the cellar bar.

The late 60s and 70s also left their mark on Palatia. The major communication problems between the generations were typical of the time. The old traditions were questioned by the younger ones, innovations were only reluctantly accepted by the old men. The number of members shrank from almost 190 to less than 90 old men. One of the most serious changes was the relaxation of the Religio principle resolved by the Cartel Association in 1971: Until now, only Catholics were allowed to be admitted, but Christians of other denominations (Protestants, Orthodox) can now also be admitted, although they are Catholic.

Gaining strength in the 1980s and until today

The renovation of the house in the early 1980s brought new momentum. Since 1983 there have been more entries again and the number of members has slowly increased again. Today the Palatia Heidelberg consists of around 150 members. On the occasion of the university anniversary in 1986, the Heidelberg Corporations published the joint commemorative publication " Weiland Bursch zu Heidelberg ". An old man of the Palatia is in charge of the editing . On December 2, 1989, a few days after the fall of the Berlin Wall, fraternity students from all over the GDR took part in the Heidelberg Schlosskommers at the invitation of the Palatia Heidelberg. In the summer semesters 1992 and 2002 the Palatia celebrated its 120th and 130th foundation festivities in a very large setting. Since gaining strength in the 1980s, an interest in wearing colors has developed within the association, which has often led to a conflict with the umbrella organization. In spring 2006 she was in the association for around three months without voting rights.

The Heidelberger Ring is an amalgamation of KV connections to maintain friendly relationships and cultural student customs.
