Sócrates II cabinet
The 18th constitutional, freely elected Portuguese government under Prime Minister José Sócrates after the Carnation Revolution in 1974 was called Sócrates II Cabinet , in Portugal also XVIII Governo Constitucional de Portugal , in German XVIII. called the constitutional government of Portugal. It ruled from 2009 to June 21, 2011. The mandate ended after the early parliamentary election on June 5, 2011 .
Parliamentary elections 2009
After the previous cabinet's mandate expired after four years, parliamentary elections were held on September 27, 2009 . In these, the ruling socialists recorded a sharp drop in votes and were unable to defend the historically first absolute majority in previous parliamentary elections. However, since none of the other parties in parliament agreed to form a coalition with the socialists and other coalition options would not have been possible or only theoretically possible, the Sócrates II cabinet ruled as a minority government .
