The Kaiserwinkl is a mountain valley running from the Inn valley in a west-east direction, which is embedded between the Chiemgau Alps in the north, primarily the Geigelstein region and the northern part of the Kaiser Mountains, the Zahmer Kaiser, in the south. Geographically, it counts for the Großache leading Leukental . It describes a region in the state of Tyrol in Austria. It includes the four Austrian municipalities of Kössen , Walchsee , Schwendt and Rettenschöss , which are located in the districts of Kufstein and Kitzbühel and are part of the LEADER region Kufstein Umgebung - Untere Schranne - Kaiserwinkl . At the eastern end of the valley is the Bavarian municipality of Reit im Winkl , part of the Traunstein district . Politically, Reit im Winkl is one of the Achental communities.
Location and concept
The previously independent tourism associations of the four municipalities merged a few years ago to form the Kaiserwinkl holiday region . Due to the alpine location with numerous lakes, valleys, plains and the Kaiser Mountains , tourism has a high priority in the region, both in winter for winter sports enthusiasts and in summer for mountain and bathing vacationers.

tourism
Tourism is of great importance in Kaiserwinkl. The Kaiserwinkl has a total of 200 km of marked hiking trails, 180 km of bike routes and around 30 mountain huts. In winter, holidaymakers can look forward to a network of 121.0 km of classic and 119.5 km of skating trails . Night cross-country skiing is prohibited on the trails. In the Tyrolean Kaiserwinkl, cross-country skiing through 2 snow-covered trails is usually possible from mid-December. The Hochkössen and Zahmer Kaiser ski area offers a total of 35.5 km of well-groomed slopes (free ski bus). Gerd Erharter is the chairman of the Kaiserwinkl tourism association.
The Walchsee is having a size of nearly 96 hectares and a depth of 21 meters, one of the larger and warmest lakes in Tirol.
In Kössen there is the first golf course in Europe that extends over a state border. Here you can golf on an 18-hole course both in Tyrol and in Bavaria. There are also other golf courses in the Kaiserwinkl area. This merger makes it one of the largest golf regions in Austria.
The village of Schwendt is located at the foot of the Wilder Kaiser in the Kitzbühel district and offers an extensive hiking area.
The smallest place in the Kaiserwinkl is Rettenschöss . The place belongs to the Kufstein district and is located on the southern edge of the Chiemgau Alps .
The Kaiserwinkl region is a pioneering site for paragliding due to the good thermals on the Unterberg in Kössen .
