history
The first written mention of the place comes from the year 1291, when it was reported that a wooden church was being built. In 1374 the place received the city charter according to Magdeburg law . During the second partition of Poland , the city came to Prussia . In 1793 with the formation of the Duchy of Warsaw , the place became part of the same and then fell to Congress Poland in 1815 . The connection to the rail network took place in 1846. After the January uprising of 1863/1864, an administrative reform was carried out by Tsar Alexander II in 1870 , whereby the place lost its town charter like many other cities in the Russian part of Poland. In 1904 a big fire destroyed the place. In September 1907 the volunteer fire brigade was founded to provide fire protection and general help. After the First World War , the place became part of the re-formed Poland. On September 2, 1939, the German Wehrmacht attacked the city, which was particularly badly affected by artillery fire . During an administrative reform, the place became part of the newly formed Piotrków Voivodeship in 1975 . On January 1, 1994, the town was given city rights again. In a further administrative reform in 1999, the Piotrków Voivodeship was dissolved and Kamieńsk became part of the Łódź Voivodeship.
