history

The early local history of Kamitz has been little researched. Again and again there is confusion with the village of Canitz near Großwig, which became desolate in the 15th century . By 1534 at the latest there was evidence of a Vorwerk in Kamitz , from which a Mannlehnrittergut emerged in the second half of the 16th century, which was owned by the von Hirschbach family. In the 17th century the von Drandorf owned the estate until it passed to the von Stammer in 1725 . 298 hectares of land belonged to the manor in 1880.

Since the 16th century the spelling of the place name changed between Camitz and Kamitz, until the official name Kamitz prevailed in 1880 at the latest.

In 1551 seven people lived in Kamitz. In 1818 there were 98 inhabitants. Kamitz was parish in Arzberg from the beginning. The official authority was in Torgau .
