The canton Mühlhausen was an administrative unit in the Heiligenstadt district of the Harz department in the Napoleonic Kingdom of Westphalia . The main place of the canton and seat of the justice of the peace was the place Mühlhausen in today's Thuringian Unstrut-Hainich district . The Prussian city of Mühlhausen, the capital of the area of the former Free and Imperial City of Mühlhausen , has been Prussian since 1802 and was the only place in the canton besides some of the town's properties and small settlements. The canton mayor was Christian Gottfried Stephan.
