The canton Wanfried was an administrative unit in the Heiligenstadt district of the Harz department in the Napoleonic Kingdom of Westphalia . The main town of the canton and seat of the justice of the peace was the small town of Wanfried in what is now the Werra-Meißner district in northern Hesse . The canton consisted of 11 places that had previously belonged to the part of the Landgraviate of Hessen-Kassel or Obereichsfeld to the right of the Werra . Canton mayor was Johann George Forcht.
