Malleray Canton

The canton Malleray ( French Canton de Malleray ) was a canton of the First French Republic on the territory of today's Canton of Bern in Switzerland .

It was created on November 19, 1797, when the southern half of the former Principality of Basel, which had not yet been formally annexed , was assigned to the Mont-Terrible department, which was created in 1793 . The canton roughly corresponded to the western part of the territory of the former Moutier-Grandval Provostry and comprised 14 municipalities:

According to a circular from the Ministry of the Interior of the 7th  Frimaire of the year VI (November 27, 1797), the canton of Malleray had 3218 inhabitants, of whom 874 were eligible to vote. It was repealed under the law of the 28th  Pluviôse of the year VIII (February 17th, 1800) and the communes came to the canton of Courtelary in the arrondissement of Delsberg in the department of Haut-Rhin .
