The 2009 Canoe Slalom World Championships took place from September 9th to 13th, 2009 in La Seu d'Urgell , Spain . The World Championships were organized by the International Canoe Federation (ICF). La Seu d'Urgell hosted the Canoe Slalom World Championships for the second time since 1999. A total of eight competitions were held, for the men an individual and a team decision in a single kayak K-1, single canoe C-1 and two-person canoe C-2 and for women an individual and team decision in a single kayak K-1. In addition, there was a test competition in C-1 for women. From the 2010 World Championships, this competition will become an official part.
The competitions were held in the Parc Olímpic del Segre , a canoe park on the Segre River , built for the 1992 Summer Olympics . The course is approx. 300 m long and has a gradient of 6.5 m.
The most successful nation in the competitions was Slovakia with three gold and silver medals. The German team won a total of four medals, in the singles Jasmin Schornberg won gold in K-1 and Jan Benzien bronze in C-1, in the team decisions they won silver in C-2 for men and bronze in K-1 for women. In the C-1 test competition, Australia achieved a triple success.
