The Kapastern ( Felicia ) is a genus within the family of the daisy family (Asteraceae). Of the approximately 83 species, 80 are distributed in southern Africa and only three are found on the Arabian Peninsula .
description
The capaster species grow as annual or perennial herbaceous plants to evergreen subshrubs . The leaves are alternate or opposite in some species, they are simple or pinnate.
It forms a few to numerous terminal head-shaped inflorescences that do not close at night. The flower heads contain ray flowers (daisies) and disc florets (disc florets). The pollination is done by insects.
They form achenes with a single row pappus .
Systematics and distribution
The genus Felicia was established by Alexandre Henri Gabriel de Cassini . Synonyms for Felicia Cass. are: Agathaea Cass. , Charieis Cass. The genus Felicia belongs to the subtribe Homochrominae from the tribe Astereae in the subfamily Asteroideae within the family Asteraceae .
Of the approximately 83 species, 80 are distributed in southern Africa and only three are found on the Arabian Peninsula .
