Center of Mitteldorf am Mitteldorfer Bach

Mitteldorf is the easternmost fraction of the municipality Virgen, whereby the settlement core of the place lies at the intersection of the Mitteldorfer Bach with the Virgental Landesstraße. The fraction expands from the town center to the west to the Virgen-Dorf fraction, with which Mitteldorf on Feldflurweg has already grown together. In addition, the hamlet of Bach in the north of Mitteldorf belongs to the fraction which, in addition to a residential building, includes the Neublasser, Gillinger, Innerblaser and Lienharter farms. The center of Mitteldorf is at an altitude of 1,089 meters.

history

Due to the location of Mitteldorf in the sheltered Virgental valley, Mitteldorf has a favorable climate compared to the surrounding mountain farms and was the location of numerous fruit trees. The Mitteldorfer chapel was completed in 1655, but in 1782 it belonged to the parish of neighboring Matrei. It was only at this point in time that Mitteldorf was parish off to Virgen. In the 1930s, severe fires ravaged the place due to arson. After the Luggeser inn had burned down in 1932, a major fire in 1933 burned almost the entire village. In 1934, the other courtyards at the west end of Mitteldorf fell into flames. Only the large, four-sided and stone-walled Danerhof withstood the fire. The courtyards in Mitteldorf were subsequently rebuilt, and the Luggeser inn moved into the old Feidlerhaus at the entrance to the village.

Chapel Mitteldorf

Chapel of St. Magdalena

The Chapel of St. Magdalena was completed in 1655 and renewed in 1791. It is outwardly without any special structure and has a choir with a 3/8 end. The facade tower with floor structure was built in 1718 and changes from a quadrangular floor plan to an octagon in the upper area. The tower is crowned by an onion dome. The interior of the chapel is divided by three bays and the choir and narrow pilasters. The ceiling is designed as a barrel vault with stitch caps and there is also a gallery. The vault is decorated with paintings showing the mercy seat , the Adoration of the Shepherds, Jesus Christ on the Mount of Olives and Mary Magdalene . The paintings are attributed to Josef Weiskopf the Younger. Remnants of original, baroque painting are still visible in a cartouche. The main altar from the end of the 18th century has columns, entablature and a top decorated with ornaments and putti. The altarpiece itself shows the Descent from the Cross. There is also an image of St. Anthony to Mary from the 18th century and a Mariahilf image by Lucas Cranach Josef Weiskopf the Elder from 1864 in the church. While the gallery has a picture of the resurrection with the date “J. Weiskopf 1867 ”, the pilasters of the chapel are adorned with several figures of saints, which can be identified by their attributes. The figures of St. Paul (with sword), St. Peter (key), St. Florian (burning house), St. Chrysanthus (skeleton), St. New Year's Eve and a Pope can be found in the chapel.
