The 531 km long Karassuk ( Russian Карасук ) is a river in the southeast of the West Siberian lowlands ( Russia , Asia ).
The Karassuk rises about 100 km southwest of Novosibirsk at an altitude of about 190 m . It flows - always on the territory of Novosibirsk Oblast - in a wide valley in a south-westerly direction through the southern part of the Barabasteppe , past the district administrative centers of Kochki and Krasnosjorskoye as well as the city of Karassuk , until it ends in a drainless basin with smaller lakes and swamps at the Kazakh border loses (at about 105 m ). When the water level is high, part of the water flows east of the city of Karassuk in a southerly direction over the Chuman ( Чуман ) to the river Burla ( Бурла ), another part in a northerly direction over the arm Baganjonok ( Баганёнок ) to the river Bagan ( Баган ).
The catchment area of the Karassuk covers 11,300 km². In the lower reaches, the water flow of the river decreases continuously through seepage and evaporation: at the end it is only about 15 m wide, 2 m deep, the flow speed is 0.1 m / s. The Karassuk has no major tributaries.
The lower reaches of the river town and railway junction karasuk where the river of the lie Railroads Tatarskaya - Kulunda and Omsk - Barnaul (a section of the South Siberian Railway is crossed).
The headwaters of the Karassuk, located in the forest steppe zone, were declared a particularly protected territory on March 26, 2007 by the governor of Novosibirsk Oblast, Viktor Tolokonski.
