Karl-Heinz Schäfer (born July 29, 1899 in Roßbach im Westerwald , † June 25, 1970 in Osnabrück ) was a German conductor , composer , pianist and music director .

biography

Schäfer worked as a music teacher , pianist and conductor from 1924 to 1938 in Bamberg , Bayreuth , Gießen and Würzburg before taking over the management of the Conservatory in Osnabrück, which he held from 1938 to 1965.

He saw himself primarily as a creative musician. With the exception of opera , he has created works in all areas of music that have attracted attention in concerts and radio broadcasts at home and abroad. He composed his last work for the beginning of the 1969/70 concert season of the Osnabrück Symphony Orchestra.

His early compositions are indebted to Impressionism , while he turned to twelve-tone music in his later works . His son is the composer and university professor Gerhart Schäfer, born in Bamberg in 1926 .
