Karl-Heinz Scholl

Karl-Heinz "Charly" Scholl (born April 5, 1944 , † March 1, 1999 in Cologne ) was a German table tennis player .

Career

In 1958 Scholl joined the table tennis department of Alemannia Cologne. Over several positions he came to TuSa Düsseldorf, with whom he became German team champion in the 1963/64 season. With Borussia Düsseldorf he won this title three times in a row between 1978 and 1980. In 1971 he won the German mixed championship together with Marta Hejma .

Scholl was nominated for two international matches by the DTTB . He completed this at the European Championships in Malmö in 1966 in a 5-0 win over Norway and in a 5-4 win over Hungary. At the 1969 World Cup in Munich, he took part in the individual competitions. Here he defeated in the individual Phillip Santos (Nigeria) and Dal Joon Lee (USA) and then eliminated against Jaroslav Staněk (CSSR). The doubles with Jochen Leiß advanced three rounds through victories over Josef Bauregger / Franz Thallinger (Austria), Edvard Vecko / Antun Stipančić (JUG) and Daniel Sanctoairo / Eric Sutherland (Belgium / Scotland). Then it lost to the Japanese Kenji Kasai / Tetsuo Inoue. In mixed with Heidi Müller , he reached the second round.

Scholl won the championship of the West German Table Tennis Association in 1969/70 when he defeated the then runner-up world champion Eberhard Schöler 3-0 in the final .

Scholl had been married since March 1966 and left behind a son and a daughter.
