Karl Beck (soccer player)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Karl Beck (born May 8, 1888 in Unter-Tannowitz , South Moravia , † February 16, 1972 in Vienna ) was an Austrian football player .

Career

From 1905 to 1909 and from 1911 to 1924 he played for SpC Rudolfshügel and from 1909 to 1911 for the Wiener Sport-Club , according to his own statements he was 13 times national player . At that time there were mainly city duels such as Vienna-Budapest , but these can be counted as international matches, since at the beginning of football it was practically limited to the respective capitals. Nine appearances in the national team between 1907 and 1918 have been recorded, five of them during his time with Rudolfshügel and four as a player in the Wiener Sportclub. He made his debut on November 3, 1907 in Budapest in the 1: 4 defeat against the national team of Hungary .

The first football activities took place on Friesenplatz in Vienna's 10th district of Favoriten . Later, the community moved to Rudolfshügel (corner of Raxstrasse / Laxenburger Strasse), which later became the home of the favorite football club, the SpC Rudolfshügel, founded in 1902. As early as 1905, Beck moved up to the first team at the age of 17. In 1907, the club earned the title of first class thanks to excellent results in game comparisons. As a result, the club was one of the twelve founding members of Austria's first official football championship in the 1911/12 season. Before that, however, namely for the seasons 1909/10 and 1910/11 Beck moved to the Wiener Sport-Club, and thus belonged to the team that remained undefeated for about two years during this time. Why Beck made a guest appearance in Hernals , the 17th district of Vienna, is unknown. What is known, however, is that his return to Favoriten coincides with the marriage of the daughter of the then president (Doleijsi) of SpC Rudolfshügel. His regular place in the club as well as internationally was the right wing; Beck played in the Rudolfshügler team until 1924. He led the team for twelve years as captain , at times also as a player -coach on the field, in 1919 he was runner-up with the club and third in 1917 and 1921 .

Others

From 1924 to 1925 he was exclusively the coach of his team.

"Karl Beck, the long-time Rudolfshügler player who has been training his club's team for several years, resigned from his position last Saturday."

“Rudolfshügel's amateur team is in the making; all about the former captain and old international Beck. "

After that, from 1927 to 1934, he worked as a referee and was considered one of the most successful "whistle men" in Vienna. He should also have directed international games, but could not do so for professional reasons.

Until his death he lived in Favoriten, where he lived (Laxenburger Straße) and worked ( Hutter & Schrantz ) - and also played football.
