Karl Blattner

Karl Blattner (born December 22, 1805 in Küttigen ; † June 30, 1883 in Aarau ; legal resident in Küttigen) was a Swiss politician and judge . In 1849 he was a Councilor of States , and from 1851 to 1862 he was a member of the canton of Aargau .

biography

The son of the judge Andreas Blattner attended the Küttiger village school. After the untimely death of his parents he was supposed to become a carpenter, but his brother Johann, a theology student in Basel , took him in and made it possible for him to attend the grammar school on Münsterplatz ; one of his teachers was Alexandre Vinet . Blattner later switched to the canton school in Aarau and went to the same class as Augustin Keller . At the University of Basel he studied law under Wilhelm Snell . After a two-year internship at the court office in Zofingen , he completed his studies at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau in 1831 .

In 1830, Blattner passed the examination as a notary , and from 1833 to 1842 he was President of the Aarau District Court. Politically he was close to the radical liberals and was elected to the Grand Council in 1831 , to which he belonged continuously until 1852 and again in 1863/64. Under his chairmanship, the Great Council passed the resolution on January 13, 1841 to abolish the monasteries . In 1838 and 1842 he represented Aargau at the federal diets , and in 1849 in the Council of States .

After taking part in the creation of the new cantonal constitution as a constitutional councilor from 1849, Blattner was elected to the government council in 1851. In the first years of office he headed the finance department, from 1856 he headed the building department. In 1862 the Great Council no longer confirmed Blattner as a member of the government. In 1864 he again took over the presidium of the Aarau District Court and from 1869 was a member of the Higher Court, of which he belonged until his death. Blattner was mainly responsible for founding the savings company Küttigen in 1834 and was its president until 1864. He was also a member of the board of directors of the Aargauische Bank (predecessor of the Kantonalbank ) and the Swiss Central Railway .
