Karl Ehmann (actor)
Karl Ehmann (born August 13, 1882 in Vienna , Austria-Hungary , † November 1, 1967 in Vienna, Austria ) was an Austrian actor .
Life
Ehmann learned the upholstery and saddlery trade, but then took acting lessons from the former court actor Carl Arnau . In 1902 he made his stage debut at the Olomouc City Theater .
Then he played in Meran , Linz and Graz . In 1908 he was engaged as a young character actor at the German Volkstheater in Vienna. Here he was employed for 30 years and took part in numerous plays. In 1938 Heinz Hilpert brought him to the Deutsches Theater in Berlin. At the same time he became a member of the Theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna.
In 1911 he took on his first film role, and from 1917 he was frequently used in silent films. Here, too, Ehmann proved to be a versatile actor who embodied a wide variety of characters from servants to emperors. At the beginning of the 20s he directed a few mostly short films himself. From 1923 to 1931 he concentrated entirely on the stage, but then he was again often seen in mostly small roles on the screen.
His grave is at the Vienna Central Cemetery 3rd Gate, Gr. 103, row 4, no.4.
