Karl Erich Müller (born September 19, 1917 in Halle ; † January 10, 1998 there ) was a German painter and graphic artist . He belonged to the Halle School .

Life

Müller learned the profession of decorative painter from 1932 to 1938 and was then drafted into the armed forces for military service. In 1943 he was taken prisoner by the Soviets, from which he was released in 1945. There he became a member of an anti-fascist committee. Then he returned to Halle. 1946–1948 he studied at the Burg Giebichenstein art school with Erwin Hahs.

In 1947 he belonged to u. a. Willi Sitte , Fritz Freitag, Otto Müller , Meinolf Splett were among the founding members of the Halle artist group “Die Fähre” and, as one of its most important representatives, was already working as a freelancer. From 1947 to 1950 he and his artist colleagues Willi Sitte and Herbert Lange took on a major artistic work in the Mansfeld and Bitterfeld mining areas. Since 1948 he worked as a freelancer in Halle. Müller had his first solo exhibition in 1948 in the Marktschlößchen Halle. Numerous group and solo exhibitions followed, as well as numerous study trips to India, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Pakistan from 1966 to 1983. Numerous pictures of people and landscapes from South Asia mark an unmistakable section in his late work.
