Karl Ghon

Karl Ghon , also Carl Ghon (born September 8, 1835 in Villach (September 7, 1835 according to baptism entry), † April 24, 1919 there ) was a businessman and member of the Austrian House of Representatives .

Life

Karl Ghon was the son of the businessman Anton Ghon († 1859). He attended a primary school in Villach from 1842 to 1846 and then attended a commercial school in Ljubljana from 1846 to 1849 . In 1849 he began a commercial apprenticeship in Klagenfurt and from 1855 to 1860 he was a traveling salesman and accountant in Trieste , Ljubljana and Vienna. In 1860 he became a merchant for spices and dyes in Villach. In 1862 he set up a fig coffee factory in Villach. He has also worked as a local historian .

In 1867 he was co-founder and member of the management of Villacher Sparkasse, from 1895 to 1919 he was its chairman. He was Deputy Mayor of Villach from 1864 to 1905 and Villach City Councilor until 1906 . Karl-Ghon-Strasse in Villach was named after him, he is also an honorary citizen of the city of Villach.

Karl Ghon was a Roman Catholic and had been married to Therese Nagele since 1868, with whom he had a son and four daughters.

Karl Ghon was a member of the German-Austrian Club from 1886 and from November 6, 1888 he was a member of the United German Left . From November 6, 1896 he was non-attached and from 1897 he was a member of the Association of the German People's Party.
