Karl Rosner (also: Karl Peter Rosner , born February 5, 1873 in Vienna , † May 6, 1951 in Berlin ) was an Austrian writer .

Life

Karl Rosner was the son of the writer Leopold Rosner . Karl Rosner attended the Franz-Joseph-Gymnasium in Vienna and then completed an apprenticeship as a bookseller. He worked in this profession in Leipzig , Breslau , Vienna and Munich . From 1901 he was a member of the editorial staff of the gazebo ; later he was editor of the monthly magazine Der Greif . From 1915 to 1918 Rosner was a war correspondent at the headquarters of Crown Prince Wilhelm . From 1919 to 1934 he headed the Berlin branch of Cotta-Verlag .

Karl Rosner was the author of novels, short stories and poems. While his early work was influenced by decadence literature, he later wrote narrative works in which his national sentiments came to the fore. He achieved his greatest successes in 1921 with the work Der König , a novel about the imperial headquarters during the Second Marne Battle in 1918 (total circulation up to the beginning of the 1930s over 100,000 copies), and in 1922 with the publication of the memoirs of the Prussian Crown Prince Wilhelm. Despite his political sympathy for the conservative camp, the National Socialists accused him of advocating tolerance in the " Jewish question "; Rosner did not publish any further works between 1933 and 1945.
