Karl Roth (medalist)

Karl Roth (born July 16, 1900 in Munich ; † February 5, 1967 ) was a German medalist , painter and sculptor .

Life

Karl Roth was the third child of the painter Alois Roth and his wife Barbara. He attended the arts and crafts school in Munich and then studied sculpture and medal art with Heinrich Waderé and Maximilian Dasio . In 1922 he went to the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and became a master student of Hermann Hahn .

From 1965 Karl Roth was a lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich.

Roth had been married to Maria Klotz since 1927.

Work

Karl Roth had a wide range of artistic interests. He created panel paintings , ceiling paintings , sculptures , tombstones , fountains and especially medals and plaques .

Honors

In September 2008, as part of the 850th anniversary celebrations of the city of Munich, the Munich State Coin Collection opened the special exhibition "Karl Roth - A Munich Medalist", in which over 220 medals and coins and other works by Karl Roth are shown. The accompanying book consists of three parts:
