Life

The brothers Dietrich and Karl Schulze were mainly active in Dortmund and the surrounding area from 1902 with their office D. & K. Schulze , whereby Dietrich Schulze is assigned the organizational-commercial component and Karl Schulze the architectural-design component. Karl Schulze had attended three semesters of architecture as a guest student at the Technical University of Hanover .

At first they built numerous mining settlements on behalf of various mining administrations, often approximating the type of the garden city . Industrial and administrative buildings as well as individual villas, residential and commercial buildings were added later.

The architects recognized the great need for building materials and therefore founded the D. & K. Schulze steam brickwork in Schwieringhausen in 1902 . The operation was shut down in 1974 as the last Dortmund brickworks; the company continues.

After Karl Schulze died in 1929 as a result of an operation, his son Karl Schulze junior took over. the architecture office.
