Karl Terkal

Karl Terkal (born October 7, 1919 in Vienna ; † August 12, 1996 there ) was an Austrian opera singer ( tenor ).

Life

He learned the art and furniture carpentry trade and worked in his profession until 1939 or after military service until 1949. He took singing lessons and his first role was Don Ottavio at the Graz City Theater in 1950 . Then in 1952 he came to the Vienna State Opera , of which he was a member for 40 years. There he sang 221 times the landlord in Rosenkavalier .

He also sang at the Salzburg Festival and the Bregenz Festival and as an opera singer he had great success at the Vienna Volksoper . He achieved his best performances with the radiant tenor voice in the lyric field with roles in operas by Giacomo Puccini , Giuseppe Verdi , Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Richard Strauss .

His historic grave is in the Baumgartner Friedhof in Vienna (group E, number 59).
