Ernst Carl Gottlieb Thelott , also Ernst Karl Gottlieb Thelot (born June 6, 1760 in Augsburg , † September 24, 1834 in Düsseldorf ), was a German painter and engraver . He was a representative of the Düsseldorf School of Painting .

Thelott, grandson of the copper engraver Johann Andreas Thelott , son of the copper engraver Johann Gottfried Thelott (~ 1711–1775) and brother of the copper engraver Johann Paul Thelott (~ 1758–1804), received his first artistic training at the academy in Augsburg, was briefly in Munich and studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from the beginning of the 1780s . He settled in Düsseldorf and initially had to be content with orders for booksellers. For the work of the Düsseldorf gallery he engraved a few sheets. He also worked for almanacs and literary works or made small portraits. He became professor for engraving at the Royal Art Academy in Düsseldorf. He was succeeded by Joseph von Keller .

His sons Ernst and Karl as well as August Hoffmann , Tamme Weyert Theodor Janssen and Joseph Carl Cogel were among his students .
