Karl Weingärtner

Karl Hans Weingärtner (born January 12, 1932 in Heilbronn ; † January 6, 2019 ) was a German historian and politician ( SPD ).

Life

He studied history , German , English and philosophy at the universities of Tübingen and Heidelberg . In 1970 he was appointed professor of history at the Reutlingen University of Education, where he was its rector from 1971 to 1976. From 1987 to 1994 he taught at the Ludwigsburg University of Education .

From 1973 to 1978 and 1980 to 1994 Weingärtner was a member of the district council of the Reutlingen district , from 1971 to 1994 he was a member of the Reutlingen municipal council, from 1980 to 1984 as chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. From 1984 to 1996 he belonged to the state parliament of Baden-Wuerttemberg to where it via a second mandate to 60 (Reutlingen) constituency represented.

In 1996 he was awarded the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his long-term commitment . Weingärtner was involved in the education and science union , in the workers' welfare , with the Friends of Nature and the Friends of the Württemberg Philharmonic .
