Karl de Ville
Karl Gabriel Marquis de Ville de Canon (* 1705 in Nancy ; † February 29, 1792 in Reschütz , Moravia ) was an Austrian general of the cavalry .
Life
Karl Marquis de Ville came from a family in Lorraine and joined the Imperial Army at a very early age . During the Turkish war in 1738 and 1739, he was Colonel Sergeant in the cuirassier regiment Saint-Ignon. In the same regiment he took part in the First Silesian War and was promoted to colonel in 1742. He was able to excel in the battles at Hohenfriedberg on June 4, 1745 and at Thrush on September 30, 1745.
Between the wars on August 17, 1751, de Ville was promoted to major general.
During the Seven Years' War he took part as a brigadier in the Battle of Prague on May 6, 1757 and was in the Battle of Breslau on November 22, 1757. On December 8, 1757 he was promoted to Lieutenant Field Marshal . On 18 January 1758 he occupied with his corps Opava . The Prussians under Wilhelm von Saldern had, however, retreated unnoticed during the night. The next day, the Prussian Dragoon Regiment No. 9 , which marched against this city, had bad luck . It knew nothing of the Austrians and was attacked by its troops and almost completely wiped out. When the Prussians under Frederick II marched to Moravia in the spring of that year and threatened the Olomouc fortress , he withdrew the infantry there to help with the defense. The cavalry was moved to Proßnitz in Moravia . On July 8, 1758, he was appointed general of the cavalry and on December 4, 1758, he was awarded the Small Cross of the Military Order of Maria Theresa . Later he commanded his own corps in Moravia and Silesia, with which he besieged the Neisse fortress in vain . He then returned to the main army. On January 27, 1760 de Ville was relieved of the field service and retired on May 1 of the same year. On March 14, 1759 he became chief of the Gelhay Cuirassier Regiment, which was dissolved in the Banat in 1767.
family
He was married to Countess Heissler von Heitersheim from 1741 . She was the granddaughter of Field Marshal Donat Johann Heissler von Heitersheim .
