Karl Martini , since 1909 Knight of Martini (born January 20, 1855 in Munich , † August 18, 1935 ibid) was a Bavarian officer , most recently a general of the infantry .

Life

family

He was the son of the Bavarian lieutenant Bernhard Martini and his wife Anna, née Foringer. Martini married Klara Straub on August 30, 1894 in Munich. The marriage produced a daughter.

Military career

After attending secondary school in 1873, Martini joined the 1st Infantry Regiment "König" of the Bavarian Army as a three-year-old volunteer . On November 27, 1876 he became a lieutenant . From 1883 to 1886 he graduated from the Bavarian War Academy and was promoted to first lieutenant on April 17, 1886 . In the further course of his military career, Martini received on April 3, 1903, as a colonel, command of the 15th Infantry Regiment "King Friedrich August of Saxony" in Neuburg an der Donau . On October 19, 1905, he took over the 3rd Infantry Brigade in Augsburg and was promoted to major general on October 28 . From August 5, 1909 to April 21, 1912, he commanded the 6th Division in Regensburg as Lieutenant General . Subsequently, Martini was promoted to General of the Infantry and Commanding General of the II Army Corps .

He retained this position after the outbreak of the First World War . In August 1914 he led his corps in the 6th Army during the Battle of Lorraine . On November 4, 1914, he handed over the corps relocated to the Lille area to Lieutenant General Otto von Stetten . Then Martini was put to the disposition and from September 3, 1918 until the end of the war he was still used as the commanding general of the Deputy General Command of the 1st Army Corps in Munich.

In 1909 Martini was awarded the Commander of the Order of the Bavarian Crown for his services .
