Life

Kaiser comes from the third generation of a theater family. Her father, director Kurt Kaiser, founded the »Vorarlberger Landesbühne« in Bregenz in 1945 and the » Bregenz Festival « in 1946 . He designed the stage system in the gondola harbor in Bregenz and was also responsible for the productions and the set design in the first few years. Then he founded in 1961 in Vienna in the Josefstadt the "theater of the Firebird" in Josefsgasse 12, where he was also the director and also as a director and set designer worked. Grandfather Julius Kaiser was the commercial director of the Deutsches Theater in Prague until he was expelled in 1923 .

Kaiser played at the theater under her maiden name Maria Gabriele Kaiser. She played her first role in 1963 in the "Theater der Feuervogel" in Vienna under the direction of her father Kurt Kaiser. She embodied the mentally handicapped boy in the play The Blue Elephant by Dieter Waldmann . Director Adolf Rott engaged Kaiser as an apprentice at the Burgtheater , where she appeared from 1965–1967.

In 1967 she moved to the Schauspielhaus - Vereinigte Bühnen Graz . There she played numerous leading roles, including Miranda in Don Juan or the love of geometry (Frisch), the title role in the play The Daughter of the Well Maker by Marcel Pagnol , Marie an Rain in Der Unbrechliche (Hofmannsthal), Emma Busch in the Posse Free of charge by Johann Nestroy , Flora in the drama Essex and Elisabeth (Antonio Coello), Lady Mortimer in Heinrich IV. , The Queen in Richard II. , Juliane in The Young Scholar (Lessing), Carol in Black Comedy by Peter Shaffer and Dorli in the play Katzenzungen by Miguel Mihura . From the 1970s she operated in motion pictures and television productions under the name Kathina Kaiser. She regularly embodied leading roles, but also took on supporting roles in international productions .

As its first film appearance, the IMDb film database features the German crime film Death of a Mannequin from 1974, a television production (ZDF / ORF) directed by Jörg A. Eggers , in which Kaiser was seen alongside Franziska Bronnen and Werner Bruhns . In 1974 she played a small role in the television adaptation of Hugo von Hofmannsthal's comedy Der Schwierige . In 1974 she took on the role of Claire in the television film Perahim - The Second Chance , directed by Hans W. Geißendörfer , a story about Perahim, convicted of police murder, played by Leon Askin . She also starred with Leon Askin in the 1974 television film Convicted of 1910 .

In 1975 the director Jörg A. Eggers founded the Cine Mercury Film-Fernsehproduktion Ges.mbH in Vienna , in which Kaiser took over 49% of the company shares. Together they produced the feature film I want to live , the first feature film in which the portrayal of a mentally and physically severely disabled child breaks the taboo of the disabled problem. Kathina Kaiser took on the role of actress Antonia Mach at the side of Heinz Bennent , whose son is dependent on a wheelchair after a traffic accident and who learns to accept her changed living conditions and also to live with the prejudices of the environment against the disabled. In 1978 she portrayed the nurse Sarah Ohlnick in the US miniseries Holocaust - The Story of the White Family . In the crime film Die Nacht der Vier Monde , a psychodrama staged in the form of a chamber play , Kaiser embodied the apparently paralyzed woman who had been paralyzed after an accident on the trapeze former circus artist Nadine, who casts a spell over the intruder who invades her house and ties him into her own sado-masochistic network of relationships; her film partners were Günther Maria Halmer , Gunnar Möller and (in a guest role) Sylva Koscina .

In 1985 she played the successful, self-confident costume designer Evelyn in the Austrian comedy Up and Down , her last documented film work, at the side of Tommi Piper , whose husband gives up the role of the family's traditional breadwinner and becomes a househusband .

Kathina Kaiser is married to the director Jörg A. Eggers . She also works as a costume and set designer , production assistant and production manager for her husband's productions .
