Kathrin Schirmer

Kathrin Schirmer , née Fischer (born March 18, 1960 in Weimar ; † February 19, 2017 ) was a German radio presenter , news anchor and music editor . Before that she was also active as a pop singer .

Kathrin Schirmer grew up in Berlstedt in Thuringia . Schirmer studied singing at the Liszt School of Music Weimar . As a pop singer, she had several hit parades in the GDR under her maiden name in the 1980s and appeared on September 3, 1988 with Heinz Quermann in the anniversary show 35 Jahre Schlagerrevue .

In 1989 she fled to the Federal Republic via Hungary . There she turned to the radio. She worked as a news anchor and became a presenter and editor. After stations in Berlin and Kempten , she joined Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk in 1992 , where she worked as a presenter for MDR Thuringia - Das Radio in the Thuringia regional radio station. At the beginning of 2015 she switched to Hessischer Rundfunk as a presenter for its radio program hr4 in Kassel .

Schirmer lived for a long time in Erfurt and most recently at the horse farm of her long-term partner in Espenau near Kassel . On February 19, 2017, Schirmer died after a long, serious illness. She was buried on March 10, 2017 in her home town of Berlstedt near Weimar. Her sister Evelyn Fischer is also a singer and presenter, as well as a university professor.
