After her first literary attempts as a student in Pärnu, the 25-year-old landed her first major success with her debut novel As a woman born in 1992. In the book "the life of young women in a student environment was reported in an unprecedented degree of openness", with "sometimes drastic colloquial language [...] providing an insight into their living conditions, relationship stories, wishes and dreams". The critics praised the "large vocabulary" and the "expressive dialogues". This made the book, which is still set in the time of the Singing Revolution , a milestone in censorship-free literature after independence was regained in 1991. However, because of its reportage-like character, which has already been pointed out by contemporary critics, the novel is more cautious in later literary history been rated. Some of her later books also met with very harsh criticism.
