Kati Outinen (* 17th August 1961 as Anna Katriina Outinen in Helsinki ) is a Finnish actress.

Life

The daughter of a teacher and an offset printer was discovered at the age of twelve in the theater group of her school. During this time she said: “I felt so free when I played.” From then on, her career aspirations were clear. In order to bridge the time to coming of age and drama school, she made acting her hobby. “And because it was a hobby, we did everything ourselves: the script, the direction, lighting, music, dance choreography, everything. That's how I grew into the theater. "

Outinen received her acting training from the eccentric theater director Jouko Turkka , who drove his students to excessive self-expression in the style of the Theater of Cruelty by Antonin Artaud . Despite the efforts, she loved Turkka's way of working. After the drama school in Helsinki she played at the KOM Theater in Helsinki for ten years and from 1980 she also appeared in films. She has gained international fame as the leading actress in Aki Kaurismäki's films , including the girl from the match factory . Kaurismäki wrote the leading role especially for her in this extremely minimalist staged and presented feature film.

Kati Outinen was Professor of Acting at the Helsinki Theater School from 2002 to 2013 . Her daughter Iida Hämeen-Anttila (* 1985) is a dramaturge .
