The Katzsohlbach (also Katzsohl-Bach or Katzsolbach ) in the districts of Harz and Mansfeld-Südharz in Saxony-Anhalt is a right and southwestern tributary of the Selke , which flows through the Katzsohltal in the Harz .

course

Katzsohlbach, north of the Katzsohlteich

The Katzsohlbach, which flows in the Lower Harz in the Harz / Saxony-Anhalt Nature Park , has its source in the Harz district. Its source is about 3 km west of Breitenstein, northeast of the Große Harzhöhe ( 599.3  m ) and south of the Schalliete ( 595.1  m ) at about 545  m above sea level. NN .

The Wahnborn flows into the Katzsohlbach, which initially flows eastwards, after about 600 m . Then the stream passes the mountain spur Mittelberg to the north , after which several streams feed it. Heidelberg ( 558.2  m ), neighboring the Mittelberg to the north-northeast, lies on the watershed leading to the Steigerbach , whose southernmost source stream rises almost 500 m north of the Katzsohlbach section below the Mittelberg. Almost 1,000 m south of this section rises near the Kleiner Brocken ( 533.1  m ), the left source stream of the Lude .

Then the Katzsohlbach flows through the Breitenstein in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz, where other streams flow into it, and then it passes the district of Untermühle below the Osterkopf ( 505.9  m ) and Sellenberg ( 482.4  m ). Then he turns to the northeast and reaches the foot of the Giersköpf (also called Gierskopflehden ; approx.  500  m ). Here a larger brook flows out of the Saugrund on the right and the Katzsohlbach bends to flow north in the lower reaches. The stream flows through the Katzsohltal , which it has cut into the mountains, a process that is still ongoing, and does not leave until it reaches its mouth. Within this valley, the brook runs again in the Harz district, where it is dammed in the Katzsohlteich .

Finally opens the Katzsohlbach about 300 m further downstream and about 30 m after passing under the Selketalbahn in the at Guentersberge located lake (also Mühlteich called; 415.1  m above sea level. ), In which the stream with the Selke at flow kilometers 62.7 united.
