The Hammelburg Cellar Castle , also known as the Red Castle , was built in 1726–1731 by Adolf von Dalberg (Prince Abbot of Fulda 1726–1737) according to plans by his Fulda court architect Andrea Gallasini on the foundations of a large cellar building as a summer residence. From 777 until 1816 , Hammelburg belonged to the Fulda Monastery and, as the center of viticulture, needed sufficient cellar capacities, which were created here. On November 3, 1737, the builder Adolf von Dalberg died in his new castle.
