Windheim Castle

The Windheim castle stood in the Lower Franconian Windheim , a district of the municipality of Wartmannsroth in the Bavarian district of Bad Kissingen .

history

The as Wasserburg designed Windsheimer castle was built by the Lords of Thüngen probably built in the 13th century.

In 1615 it fell victim to a fire, but survived the Thirty Years' War undamaged after its reconstruction and was inhabited by its bailiff from 1660 after it was sold to the Würzburg Juliusspital . Around 1770 the monastery priest responsible for the Windheim parish was assigned an apartment in a castle tower, which has since been called the "monastery tower".

After the unification of the district bailiffs of the Juliusspital and Wolfsmünster in 1811, the residents left the castle, whereupon the monastery priest of the place was able to move into some now empty rooms and the local school also found accommodation in the castle until 1881.

In 1882, the property had to be demolished because of dilapidation; A forester's house, which is now a listed building, was built in its place.
