The tower hill Frauenroth , also called Castrum Burkardrode , is an abandoned tower hill castle (moth) above the Lederbach about 150 meters southwest of the church of Frauenroth , a district of the market Burkardroth in the Bad Kissingen district in Bavaria .

history

Behind the ponds in the dark fringe of the forest (center), the Burgstall is located southwest of the former monastery.

The small castle complex was first mentioned in 1230 as " Castrum Burkardrode", but probably existed much earlier and was destroyed after 1234.

The modest castle was built by the Würzburg bishops to protect the salt forest. In 1228 a service knight Lupolds de Burchhardrode is named as a witness in a document.

The castle hill probably had a residential building but no residential tower, which the small remains indicate. The enclosure of the castle probably consisted of a simple palisade wall . The castle was protected to the east by a steep slope facing the Lederbach. In 1244 Otto von Botenlauben bequeathed the remains of the castle and the goods belonging to it to the Frauenroth monastery .
